Two weeks ago, the police in Vienna arrested a 28-year-old who allegedly dealt with expensive vehicles that he had acquired through fraud. The Viennese reportedly caused damage amounting to 580,000 euros. He found his victims in Salzburg (Flachgau and Pinzgau), Vienna-Leopoldstadt, Vienna-Landstraße, as well as in the districts of Graz-Umgebung, Baden, Mödling, and Wels-Land, reported the Lower Austria State Police Directorate on Thursday.

On October 9, a car dealer from the district of Wiener Neustadt noticed a high-priced car on an online platform. After a phone call with the supposed seller, they agreed on a purchase price of 70,000 euros and arranged the handover for the next day in Vienna-Liesing.

Dealer Recognized Viennese Car Fraudster: Arrest During Alleged Car Purchase

When the dealer told a friend and colleague in the Baden district about the planned purchase, the colleague immediately recognized a parallel to his own purchase from September. At that time, he had also acquired a high-priced car, which later turned out to have been lost by the rightful previous owner to an unknown fraudster. This fraudster had faked the transfer of the purchase price with a forged confirmation and then resold the unlawfully acquired car.

At the purchase appointment on October 10, the car dealer from Baden accompanied his colleague and unmistakably recognized the supposed seller. He notified the police, and officers from the Wiener Neudorf station arrested the suspected fraudster on the spot. Further investigations revealed a total of nine additional similar frauds committed by the Viennese.

The accused refused to testify during his interrogation. He was taken to the Wiener Neustadt correctional facility on the orders of the Graz public prosecutor's office. According to the police, investigations into possible accomplices and further similar crimes are ongoing.
