ÖBB Strengthens Replacement Service on S-Bahn Main Line

The ÖBB are responding to the expected increase in passenger numbers during the last two weeks of the main line closure. Starting August 18, more buses will run with a tighter schedule and longer operating hours to handle the rush due to the vacation turnover.

According to ÖBB, the construction work on the S-Bahn main line is proceeding as planned. However, in the remaining two weeks of the total nine-week closure, ÖBB expects significantly more passengers. The reason for this is the vacation turnover, which will become noticeable starting Monday, August 18, reports ORF.

ÖBB Strengthens Rail Replacement Services

The closure of the rapid transit main line has led to numerous replacement solutions in public transport. To accommodate the increased passenger volume, ÖBB is strengthening measures in rail replacement services.

For the line that directly connects the Praterstern and Floridsdorf stations, a schedule of just four minutes will be offered during peak hours starting August 18 (instead of the previous five minutes). Additionally, operating hours will be extended by one hour until 9:00 PM.

Additional Bus Lines for Relief

The so-called "blue line," which operates with stops from Praterstern to Floridsdorf station, will remain on a ten-minute schedule. However, to meet the increased demand, ÖBB will deploy additional buses that run from Praterstern via the Handelskai and Traisengasse stations. This is intended to create a five-minute schedule during peak hours (Monday to Friday, 6:30 – 9:00 AM and 3:30 – 6:30 PM).
