The promotion of electromobility is coming to an end. Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler spoke of record demand.

The continuation of the promotion of electromobility in Austria now lies in the responsibility of the next federal government. They must ensure that sufficient financial resources are provided for the further expansion of electric vehicles and the associated infrastructure, according to Gewessler.

Record Demand for E-Mobility Promotion According to Ministry

According to the ministry, the E-Mobility Offensive 2024 is ending with around 25,000 subsidized charging points and 18,000 subsidized vehicles. For comparison: in 2020, there were just under 9,000 subsidized vehicles and only slightly more than 2,000 charging points. In just four years, the number of applications has increased tenfold. In total, nearly 160,000 funding applications for electric vehicles and charging infrastructure have been submitted in the past five years. Among private individuals, around 62,000 electric vehicles and 51,000 wall boxes or charging cables were subsidized.

In the corporate sector, around 53,000 vehicles could be subsidized, including 35,000 electric cars. The switch to climate-friendly mobility is thus progressing "at record speed," according to the ministry. Especially in recent weeks, the media-discussed plan to cut funding has led to a massive increase in registrations.
