A Styrian accident driver caused a search operation with a police helicopter and drones.

Out of fear of the alcohol test, a 27-year-old accident driver fled from the police into a forest in Southeast Styria on the night of Saturday, triggering a large-scale search operation. Involved were not only the police and fire brigade but also a police helicopter and drones. Only after several hours was the man - after repeated checks by the police - found uninjured at his home address, the authorities announced on Saturday.

Request for Alcohol Test - Man Fled

The police were informed by witnesses shortly before midnight about a traffic accident near Kirchbach in Styria. At the scene of the accident, the 27-year-old driver was encountered. Other persons were likely not involved in the accident, which resulted in property damage. Nevertheless, the man fled into the adjacent forest when he was asked by the officers to take an alcohol test.

The driver apparently returned to his home address during the morning, where he was then found by a police patrol during a repeated check. Further investigations were still ongoing on Saturday afternoon.
