Gendertag 2025: Sports Remain a Male Domain

The domestic sport remains a male domain. 82 percent of the people in leadership positions are men.

Regarding coaching, 83 percent are male coaches and only 17 percent are female coaches. In the field of refereeing, there are just eight percent women. These figures were presented on Tuesday at the Gender Conference 2025 at the House of Sports in Vienna, organized by 100% Sport - the Austrian Center for Gender Competence and Safe Sport.

The conference was dedicated to the topic of gender equality in sports. The basis for this was the data collected as part of All In Plus - a joint project of the EU and the Council of Europe - for the period from 2023 to 2025 in 21 countries. Regarding gender equality in sports, Austria does not stand out as a model student, as shown by the data analysis of 31 national sports federations, the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC), and the Austrian Paralympic Committee (ÖPC).

"The imbalance still exists. Changes happen slowly," summarized 100% Sport Managing Director Claudia Koller. Of the athletes who can make a living from sports, 66 percent are men and only 34 percent are women.
